This darling cat, Spooky, somehow managed to get tangled in a plastic bag this morning, approximately 30 minutes ago. From what I can tell, she was in the basement pantry, perhaps sniffing in some of the plastic bags full of canned foods. Perhaps she sniffed too much and a couple cans of tuna came tumbling on her, startling her and getting her all mixed up in the bag (there were three cans laying askew on the floor).
This is when she came ripping through my bedroom, through my luggage, under the bed (knocking the lamp and clock off of the nightstand). I was half asleep and not wearing glasses, but I thought she was chasing Tinker (who is now hiding really well in the house or missed the whole scene and is outside).
I jumped out of bed and ran downstairs. I found her huddled and growling behind the sectional sofa in the living room. I tried reaching down to lift her, but all she would do was growl louder and hiss and bat at my hand. I even tried climbing behind the couch, but there wasn’t enough room to help and it just made her more frantic anyway. I called Mom at work because I just had to tell someone how Spooky became possessed by the Devil. She was psychotic.
I could see that the bag might have been caught on her collar, but I couldn’t tell if it was actually hurting her or not. As I spoke to Mom, Spooky came out from behind the couch and sat under an old-fashioned desk, plastic bag and all. I got off the phone and inched towards the cat. She started growling more, of course. After a few moments of deciding which hand would be able to better grab her, I got hold of her and held her tight to my chest. The plastic bag easily slipped off. She seemed calm for a moment and I let her go. She ran behind the couch, but peeked out at the plastic bag. I got up to throw it away.
To make her forget the ordeal, I went to the basement pantry to get a little can of cat food for her (her favorite reason for me to be around). She followed me down the steps but as soon as we approached the doorway to the pantry, she stopped, growled, sniffed and stared into the dark room. She might be forever turned off from plastic bags.
And as far as I can tell, she really didn’t do any damage to me with her scratches because she is such a little lady cat. She’s a psycho princess furball.
The end. I have to go back to Minneapolis in two hours.
March 18th, 2006 — Karaoke
Karaoke at the Eagle’s last night was very dead. Within about 2.5 hours I think I sang 7 songs. Plus I sang a duet with my brother (“If I Had a Million Dollars”). That is totally ridiculous. There were some other gals singing after a while, but for a while the line-up for singers was: Karaoke Chris, Me, Kelsey. Mom and Jeannie sang a few songs, too.
Usually if Legend’s is dead I feel guilty and stay until closing. Last night, though, Mom and Dad wanted to leave at midnight and they were my ride home!
Where were all the insane USD students on St. Patty’s Night? Carey’s.

I came to Vermillion with $40 and now I have $50. Addicted to a hole punch game at the eagle’s! Must win more…

Karaoke last night was awesome! Sort of… I wish I had gotten to sing more, but it was amazing how many people showed up. It was snowing like mad again (still is, too) but Legend’s was hoppin’! Jen and I had a two-song Irish song series for St. Patty’s Day… Later I sang “Devil Inside” by INXS and it’s still in my head because I feel like I totally rocked that song. It was fun! Also what was awesome was that Brenda got me into the singing line-up *just* before the lights turned on for closing — so I got to sing the last song (“Barracuda” by Heart). Woop!
Today coworker Mary and I are driving to South Dakota for a long weekend (floating holiday tomorrow at work). I hope the roads aren’t too terrible.
I also went to view an apartment last night and it’s great and I’m going to submit my rental application via fax today, I think… I’m excited to move to a new neighborhood (near the Basilica in downtown Minneapolis) — it’s refreshing to have a change of scenery. I am not excited to move things like my couch, however.

I forgot to share my snow story!
So, on Monday morning (the big snow dump day) I decided to shovel the sidewalk a little bit before leaving for work. I was working on the stairs around my front door and leading to the mailboxes, when Kristi stepped outside.
“Wow!” she said.
“Yeah, it’s not even a snow emergency yet.” She trudged off through the un-shoveled snow and I continued shoveling for about a minute more. When I turned to open the door to go back inside, I realized that something had gone horribly wrong. Kristi’s habit of locking the door as she leaves finally conquered me and I was locked out of the house: no keys, no cell phone, no hat, etc.
This is when I turned into a crazy woman and I began running as much as I could through the snow, getting hit in the face by drooping snow-covered branches, screaming out Kristi’s name (which I’m sure was not traveling through the snow-fog at all). I am so out of shape.
I finally caught Kristi just as she was about to get onto her bus to go to work. My hair was drenched, my lungs were burning and I wanted to die.
I walked back home with her house key, got inside, called into work and said, “This is Amy. I’m going to be late.”
