Very exciting news for me this morning: two of my photos are published in the July 2006 issue of Minnesota Monthly! Unfortunately no photo credit — but I know that I took them, and my coworkers know, and now you know. The photos are from Drawn to Nature, the Bell Museum‘s annual fundraiser that was held on March 31st.

This is actually the second time my photos from a Bell Museum event have been published in MN Monthly. The first time was a photo from an exhibition opening a couple years ago — Birds in Art, I think. I should try to find that so I can make a copy for myself… Anywho. On Wednesday evening I found myself spending time with Jen, who had just returned from a week-long adventure in Los Angeles. We ran her errands, I made her a spaghetti dinner, we drank a bottle of wine and watched the first competition of So You Think You Can Dance (I’m rooting for Benji). Soon it was karaoke time, so we headed to Legend’s with her friend, Clayton. Barry met us there, we made new friends (who were actually just other regulars that finally felt like talking), and sang many songs. Jen’s other friend, Dave, eventually joined us, too. I stayed out too late, but mostly just because I had been awake since about 6am. I was super exhausted, thought I’d probably be worthless at work, so I stayed home yesterday and passed much of the day by sleeping.

Yesterday evening, Jen and I went over to Kristi’s apartment for a quiet evening of drinking margaritas and watching Taxi Driver.

Today I should get some work done.

I feel like summarizing. Things I learned at last…

I feel like summarizing.

Things I learned at last night’s Cafe Scientifique:

  • fish contain pbts and mercury.
  • smaller fish, wild fish (such as salmon), younger fish, and fish that are lower on the food chain are safer to eat than the opposites.
  • the only way to lose pbts is by losing weight, but then it is in your bloodstream.
  • mercury never goes away.
  • women pass these toxins on to offspring and these toxins can cause developmental problems.
  • women should not eat shark or mackerel ever. basically .
  • DNR’s Lake Finder will give you more info about your favorite Minnesotan lake(s).

Yoga asanas to practice for homework this weekend:

  • Virabhadrasana, “Warrior II”
  • Parivrtta Virabhadra Konasana, “Revolved Warrior Angle”
  • Trikonasana, “Triangle”

Other things:

  • I finally received my deposit refund from my previous residence and I am slightly irritated at some of the cleaning expenses.
  • I am finally planning a small party to show off my new home and that is exciting.
  • Coworker Rita is testing EBay for selling art. If she fares well, I might give it a shot, too.
  • Seriously: that spider I ran into last night? HUGE. I wish I had taken a photo of it next to a coin so I could show you. But I was too horrified and busy trying to be brave enough to kill it. It took three paper towels and a nearly clogged toilet to conquer my fear. I was also afraid because I don’t have a plunger.
  • Things to buy: plunger, cotton balls.
  • I hope that I get to do some karaoke again soon. Maybe tonight?
  • I may have to meander over to the Stone Arch Bridge Arts Festival this weekend.

I am now shaking because I just had to face the biggest spider ever – it must have followed me from the laundry room. Seriously freaked out.

I’m finally going to do something social in public…

I’m finally going to do something social in public tonight – coworker Mary and I are headed to this evening’s Cafe Scientifique after work (starts at 6pm at the Varsity Theatre). We will learn about the state of the Twin Cities’ lakes. We’re stopping at the Steak Knife for dinner and beer beforehand. This is a very exciting development! Too bad I don’t have my camera today… Perhaps I will flickr some phone photos.

Also I must confess that I watched How to Get the Guy on ABC last night. I’m not sure how I feel about a relationship show during primetime, and I don’t think I enjoyed it… Mostly it made me feel more reluctant about dating. Volume dating? Can I get a “yikes!”?

Plastic Chord is having a show at the Hexagon Bar …

Plastic Chord is having a show at the Hexagon Bar again tonight (starting at 10pm – 21+, no cover). I’m not sure if I’ll make it since I’ve got to wake up early again tomorrow, but you definitely should. Tell them “Hi!” for me.
