Last night Mark and Jon were visiting Kristi and since I want to be cool, too, I visited Kristi as well. We each found dinner in the Midtown Global Market (I had a huge, inexpensive gyro from Holy Land – awesome) then hung around her apartment. After a bit we decided to go for a walk around Powderhorn Park. It was pretty and pleasant.
All of the little ducklings that Kristi and I met back in June have grown up!
And I also tried, fairly unsuccessfully, to get photos of the fish in the little lake.
Mark kept spitting at them, which I thought was gross, but it certainly brought them to us! I like watching fish.
Kristi also tells me that Dmitry from So You Think You Can Dance will be visiting Minneapolis soon (she works with a cousin of his). How much would I scream like a little girl if I got to meet him? He is ohsohot.

I am bored at the ERC and instead of going home, I am downloading music and reading blogs. I just found an amusing little anecdote about scorpios on Tony Pierce’s site.
supertsar7: scorpios are the best!
jenny: yes, yes we are
supertsar7: one year i dated six scorpios in a row
supertsar7: i would highly recommend that to any young boy
jenny: we’re the most sexual and sensuous sign of the zodiac
supertsar7: by a mile
jenny: yay
supertsar7: in many cases its not even fair
jenny: haha, well i’m sorry you feel that way. but we make up for it by also being stubborn, jealous, possessive, over-emotional psychos
supertsar7: but also mysterious and sultry and intuitive
supertsar7: im lucky i was born on the cusp of scorpio and libra
supertsar7: so im not jealous at all
supertsar7: or emotional
jenny: i wish i wasn’t jealous. it’s more hassle than it’s worth.
supertsar7: i think with practice people can get over it
supertsar7: although even God says that hes jealous
jenny: well i need a lot of practice then. actually, i think i’m getting better.
jenny: really?
jenny: well then i don’t feel so bad
supertsar7: yeah, way early in Genesis, he says that hes a jealous God
supertsar7: and hes very emotional
jenny: maybe he’s a scorpio.
supertsar7: could be
P.S. I’m a scorpio. I totally get it.

Everyone I know seems to be out of town this weekend (with the exception of Karyn and Bryan, who were trapped in Uptown due to the art fair), but I was hungry last night and there was nothing at all appetizing about the contents of my kitchen.
I received a coupon to Buca di Beppo a while ago – $5 off of a small entree. I realized, of course, that the portions at Buca are ridiculously large and meant for family-style eating. “Small” sounded promising, though.
I showed up around a quarter to 6pm and asked if I could get a table for myself. After promising to leave within the hour, I was seated. Right away I ordered a glass of pinot noir and one of the evening’s specials (steak contadina). My server also talked me into ordering some garlic bread with mozarella. It was all very awesome and way too much for little ol’ me. I like leftovers, though.
Sometimes I wish I was a food critic. Going to restaurants is super fun, but it would be even more fun if I wasn’t paying.

If you’re going to live in my house and come within my view, I will have no reservations about removing you.

Hey! I am writing to you on a Saturday! I even took some photos so that I could have something of substance to write about! This is all very new and exciting because A) I am out of my house and B) I didn’t have to go to my office to do this. I am at the very lovely downtown Espresso Royale Caffe. I’m a fan of coffee shops.
So, Minneapolis is alive with art this weekend. There are three art festivals (Uptown, Powderhorn Park and Loring Park) and today is a Free First Saturday at the Walker Art Museum. Earlier I wandered through the Loring Park festival on my way to the Walker to see the Diane Arbus Revelations exhibition… which is seemingly endless, but fantastic. I also ran into my friends, Jon and Mark, there – but lost them fairly quickly amidst the photographs. Oh, well.
Some photos from the Loring Park festival:
And a quote from Diane Arbus:
These are singular people who appear like metaphors somewhere further out than we do, beckoned, not driven, invented by belief, author and hero of a real dream by which our own courage and cunning are tested and tried; so that we may wonder all over again what is veritable and inevitable and possible and what it is to become whoever we may be.
Excellent exhibit – you should should visit before it closes September 10. Photos of transvestites, female impersonators, nudist colony residents, and the glamourous people of a 1960s New York. These are the kinds of photos that I would love to experience taking, but everyone is so camera-shy and self-conscious now. I’m shy about asking, too.
I also thought about how much work must have gone into hanging that exhibit; I know how much work the curators at the Bell Museum do for an exhibit. I can’t wait until there is a new building and we can have exhibits just as large and enticing.
