Cat Faerie

Aw! The cat faerie came to visit my coworker, Nina, at Lulu & Luigi and sent a little gift to my future kitty. Lovely and unexpected!

I plan to officially adopt on December 29th! The wait gets more difficult every day.

Salil Ockenga

@ home

He belongs to my Dad’s cousin, Mike (and Mike’s wife, Prayati). His first birthday is in less than a week!

This kid is sneaky.

After the Thanksgiving dinner had ended and everyone was busy playing games, Prayati brought Salil over to watch a rousing game of pinochle. I have two silver earrings on the top of right ear that sometimes stick out through my hair. He caught sight of them and began reaching… until I turned my head and he pretended that he wasn’t doing anything. This went on a few more times and each time that I turned my head he pulled away and acted nonchalant about the whole thing. Quite amusing (and he never did get to grab and yank on my earrings, thankfully).

I have many more photos of both Salil and my cousin’s weiner dogs, Smokey and Tito. This would be the day I would upload them, but I forgot to get them off of my camera and now my camera is at home. So… more Thanksgiving photos will come later this week.

Long Weekend

Tomorrow at noon I am leaving for a long weekend in sunny* Vermillion, South Dakota. My friend and coworker, Mary, is providing the ride. We always stop at Erbert’s & Gerbert’s for lunch on our way out of town. Amazingly we also always find five hours worth of gossip to share. Even though we spend a good chunk of every work day gossiping, too. Mary is lovely to talk to.

On Thursday I will spend the afternoon in Sioux Falls. Dinner will be yummy and the weiner dogs will be hysterical but too many people know how to play pinochle so I don’t get to play anymore. I will either bring along my computer and watch DVDs of Project Runway that are arriving from Netflix tomorrow or I will fall asleep under a pile of blankets on my aunt’s couch.

The other days will be spent doing nerdy things, like working on websites or frustrating myself about what to include in my portfolio. Also I guess I am supposed to be cleaning my parents’ house in preparation for my brother’s Big Party in December (he is graduating with his master’s degree, which beats my sister, who will hopefully receive her MBA in the Spring and maybe I’ll have mine in about 3 years). I hope I don’t have to dust.

But, anyway. I am really looking forward to the next few days.

* It might be cloudy, too.

Things and Places

I’m almost finished with my second cup of tea this morning and my eyes are getting fuzzy and having a hard time focusing. This is me on drugs.

Also I am feeling frustration about not being about to figure out a theme for my final project in digital photo (proposal due today—I’m handing in a stream-of-conciousness explanation about my inability to decide). Photos just happen lately. I haven’t planned photos for quite some time. All I know is that there better be some inspiration in Vermillion over this coming Thanksgiving weekend because I’ve narrowed down my focus to this place I call home.

Also I hope Chae’s will be serving lunch on Friday or Saturday because I am thinking about Lo Mein this morning. It sounds so tasty! Just like it hard to wait to adopt a kitty until after traveling season has passed, it is also hard to wait for the taste of Chae’s after realizing that it could be available in just a few short days.

This weekend I started building a website for my dad’s siding and remodeling business but I’m not sure if it will actually exist online one day or stay in my computer for only my eyes to enjoy/obsess about.

Other things I did this weekend:

  • Midnight Wondrous Punches at Red Dragon with Rebecca. We talked about boys and horses.
  • The largest Gingerbread House at the Mall of America? Does not look like it would taste good.
  • Jon and I remembered how to cast-on, knit and K2TOG together. I have really been neglecting these skillz.
  • Kristi and I pretended we were fancy as we ate dinner at the Napa Valley Grille at the Mall of America. The upscale restaurants at M.O.A. are just a little bit ridiculous.

Enough blathering: I need to eat food before my head explodes with crazy. No more tea for me!

Photography Parties

I was pretty much fabulous all day on Saturday. In the morning I got very excited about graduate school possibilities (and the enthusiasm hasn’t died yet). In the afternoon I played photographer for Rebecca at the Chocolate Extravaganza‘s Fashion Show (and met Katherine Gerdes from Project Runway‘s third season). In the early evening I played Karaoke Revolution with Rebecca and Orion. In the later evening (and into the early morning hours) I partied like an artist somewhere in the southwestern area of Minneapolis. I danced like I have never danced before. I also took many photos. Please enjoy them since I enjoyed taking them.

No photos from Sunday or Monday but birthdays look like birthdays, right? My 25th birthday was yesterday. After the holidays I’ll be redeeming a gift certificate that my family got for me from the Animal Humane Society. I will be a mother (of a kitty) in 2007! Just wait for it: you will be so sick of looking at my cat.

That’s it for now. My eyes hurt. I think it’s time to switch my contact lenses.
