ampersand got her first solo visit to the vet recently. i was being an overly worried cat-mom and decided to take her in one morning when her eyelid was mysteriously swollen. it was out first trip to pet central animal hospital since we have all been relatively healthy in the last year. ampersand didn’t think it was that great, but dr. ngo was very attentive and gentle and the whole place was clean and bright. it’s good to know that we’re so close to such a nice pet clinic and that they were willing to squeeze me and ampersand in on very short notice.

by the way, ampersand was fine. she probably just got into something she shouldn’t have. she healed after a few days of ointment and she’s back to fetching to biting ellipses!

yesterday i discovered some animal has come along and completely stolen my anemone plant. it was dead anyway, but seriously? that area of the garden is totally ugly now.

bertine had a girls-only clothing swap.

this is bertine’s girl cat, harriet, so don’t worry. no boys infiltrated! (her two boy cats hid in another room.)

i saw some fun puppets from the in the heart of the beast during the annual may day parade.

then life was quiet for a little while. i know because i’m going through my flickr photo stream and the only things i posted for a week or two are my photos of the day.

however, during this quiet time, i finally left tcf bank for spire credit union. i’ve been wanting to switch to a credit union for a while since i’m just about ready to think about buying a new car or my very own house or something big like that. i think being part of a credit union will help me with this sort of thing.

i’ve also been spending a lot of time having a big crush on my boyfriend. he’s pretty darn awesome. (he was celebrating cinco de mustache in this photo.)

and, of course, i’ve been petting my kitties. they recently received a FURminator (from me) and it’s all they can talk about (if they aren’t talking about food).

my real reason for this photo purge? i am participating in flashbelt this week and will be heading out to las vegas in about a week and a half and i just really need to clear my blog’s to do list before i can properly share these other experiences with you. there are other events coming up over the next month or two that i will be taking a lot of photos during, so purge purge purge i go! what will i post about next?!

Photo Catch Up Extravaganza

Please have a seat. I have about 50 million new photos to show you, some of which are from (what seems like) forever ago. There is just too much life happening lately!

Jason took me to see Dan Navarro play with Michael McDermott at the Fine Line Music Cafe. It was a really good show and it’s entirely possible that I was more than a little happy to be out on the town with such a good man. A good date night will cure what ails you!

I went on a date with Hannie (and Karyn) to Underwater Adventures. We unfortunately didn’t see any barracuda (my favorite) but there were plenty of scary sharks! When is it not crowded? That would be a good time to go again with Hannie so she can spend less time being distracted by other humans.

I also had the privilege of meeting a very new Miss Aurora Collier-Wise.

That was a very busy day. The following day I made Jason do some Vermillion sight-seeing, which I will continue in a new post.

Really drives you insa-a-a-ane

So, practicing being a big girl in the city, I opted to bus to Legend’s for karaoke last night. I met Barry there and there was an unusual crowd… they were fun and funny, but quite diverse. It felt like everyone knew everyone else. Anyway, I’m always early and submittin’ a million songs right away, so Brenda sang and then I was her look-how-much-fun-karaoke-is! demo girl (which has happened several times before, I’m so eager to rock). I started with Frente!’s “Labor of Love,” moved to Veruca Salt’s “Volcano Girls” (which is a really fun song to sing methinks), then it was almost time to go home, so I told Brenda to pick a good one from my three remaining submissions. She picked TLC’s “Waterfalls.” I had tried this one before, but Left Eye’s rap had been cut out. I picked a different song number and this time got the rap! And it was awesome and I felt awesome and I mostly nailed it! Then I was out of breath, but the crowd was quite excited for a little white girl rapper and they gave me such an adrenaline boost! Hence the karaoke high. Woop! Barry sang one more song, then asked Brenda if we could “Time Warp” before we left. (Barry: “We could do that.” Me: “Sure, we could try it sometime.” Barry: “We could do it tonight.” Me: “I dare you!”) She sang and danced with us and it was all good fun, woo. All this rocking and we left by 11:30pm!

Meanwhile, my fish are at home creating a lot of noise with their rocks. I’m not sure what they’re doing, but I think they’ve buried the little sickly catfish and are creating a new fort. They are quite the little army, probably plotting my demise. (When I moved them to the new apartment, I had the tetra, the big poo-eater, and 12 catfish — including the sickly one.)

This is crazy!

Albert has also learned to play fetch, retrieving the ball from the bottom of his tank and nudging it back to his owner's waiting hand. Football fans might call it a hand-off!

Like Albert, your fish will be eating right out of your hand after Fish School training!

Have you seen this? Although I think it’d be cute if my fish ate from my hands, I don’t like them that much.

I’ve slowly taught my Oscars to jump all the way out of the water for food. I started them at 1 inch, and every week or two moved higher and higher. – Carla, FL

My fish jump out of the water, too… so they can die.
