December 31st, 2010 — Family, Holiday, South Dakota, Sporting Events
bryan, karyn, hannie and i drove down to south dakota on christmas eve – despite really nasty winter weather.

my mom was thawing a ham for the family meal on christmas day. it was my brother’s ham, so it was like he was there with us. right?

but for christmas eve dinner, mom made two giant vats of soup – chicken noodle and split pea. yum!

hannie likes bread best.
as we finished eating dinner, dad got a phone call from a friend. “looks like someone hit the front side of your van…” he said. dad looked outside, and though there was no damage to the van, there was a very large package next to it. bryan and i ran outside to bring it in…

a 55″ lcd hdtv! dad was stunned and hannie was very excited.

bryan, dad and i went to wal-mart to get a new entertainment center for the tv, while karyn, mom and hannie frosted and sprinkled cookies.

hannie had an icing mustache, which was pretty funny, but she wouldn’t let me take a photo of it.

so, that was a pretty exciting night.

we also had a turducken for christmas day lunch. this was very exciting for everyone involved, i assure you.

hannie got really excited about opening presents, so she got to open her stocking right away. i also let her open a small present i got for her.

so many presents for hannie!

but there were a few presents for the rest of us, too. fun!

jason gave me a wii for christmas and now i have a new game to play on it – epic mickey! i started the other night. it’s kinda dark, but will be fun once i get into it, i think.

karyn got her very own masher! wahoo!

“hannie, are you silly?” “yeah!”

mom and dad got a new camera for their trip to taiwan next month! take lots and lots of photos, okay, guys?!

karyn disguised my last gift (which hannie helped me open) by wrapping it with a few random other things inside at least 5 different bags and boxes – it was a new ipod nano!

we went to uncle tom’s & aunt kim’s for our first christmas day meal. grampa bob brought some “mystery wine” he made at home. it was pretty tasty!

but kim opted for poinsettia cocktails instead.

newest christmas tradition: cousin micheal’s robotic santa.

tur! duck! hen!

then it was time for the always hilarious dice game.

shih tzu party central.

cousin jenny and jeremy got married this year. they still seem to like each other, so that’s good, ‘eh?

cousin jon got a pregnancy test. let’s hope it negative!

hannie got a whoopee cushion. i have a video, which i’ll upload to youtube… someday…

all tuckered out! i guess that was a pretty exhausting gift exchange for the puppies.

oh, wait! one more gift for jeremy from cousin micheal!

… it’s an… alligator?

and for another oddity, steve made a christmas poo. but it was delish!

for dinner, we joined aunt deb, gramma d, and cousin brock just down the road.

gramma d got just a few more owls for christmas.

good thing hannie was around to help gramma open all of her presents!

we went home around 9pm. sioux falls was a-glow as we left it.

we had to get on the road back to minneapolis by noon, but i was glad that kelsey and aurora could come over before we started packing up.

can you imagine what life would be like to be that adorable? those eyes! she’s such a sweet little babe.

hannie was a little unsure about not being the center of attention, but she hung around anyway.

thanks for the visit, ladies!
when we got back to minneapolis, jason picked me up and whisked me away to st. paul for that night’s wild game. i won the tickets through email bingo at work! so even though the wild lost (unfortunately), we still had a pretty good time.

the final score was 1-4.

when i finally got home after the game, santa had brought jason another, special gift to give to me. santa sure is a sweet, generous guy!

i’m feeling very blessed this holiday season – lots of great family, a wonderful boyfriend, and really super friends. i’m currently in indianola, iowa, with jason’s family – waiting for 2011 at midnight and a few more christmas festivities tomorrow. i hope you’re having an equally fantastic holiday season, too.
happy new year!

This is old news by now, but the Twins have been doing quite well in their new home: Target Field. A couple weeks ago, Jason and I went to see them play and it was such a good game! We had sunshine, the front row, a home run, and a winning game! I’m definitely looking forward to my next trip to the field.
Of course I got sucked into the photo op.
My sunglasses are about twice the size of his. Because I’m so stylish, you know.
I kept missing the little pops of fireworks, but catching the smoke afterwards! I needed about three more of me to get all of the photos I wanted to get during exciting times.
The neon Minne and Paul were so very cool — a lovely throw-back to the Twins from long ago. Everything about this stadium was sort of touching and awesome like that.
Also: the toilets had two options for flushing in an effort to conserve water! I get excited about being eco-friendly.
(I would like to note that although the game I’m reporting about in these photos was a couple weeks ago, the Twins won at Target Field yet again tonight. Go team!)
February 18th, 2010 — ATP, Holiday, Orlando, Sporting Events
I went to Orlando.
I spent a lot of time with my coworkers.
I have coworkers that know how to let loose, though, so it was all good.
We stayed at a giant golf resort with fancy toilet paper.
There was a big industry conference.
It’s one of our most important events of the year.
I had fun, despite the late nights and way-too-early mornings.
Luckily, we had lots of folks around to help things go smoothly.
We hosted an ’80s-themed party.
I even got to do a little bit of sight-seeing.
Sunday brunch in the Animal Kingdom — I could’ve stayed a while longer.
One of the best things about Florida is all of the gigantic birds that are everywhere.
I went to Downtown Disney and drank tequila.
The crowds weren’t nearly as annoying as I expected, but it was after most kids’ bedtimes.
I bought some silly gifts for my niece.
On my last day in Florida, I had 15 minutes to myself to enjoy the hot tub.
It was sunny, but windy and about 50°. I braved it, though, and when I went back inside I was a little pink! So it was well worth it.
I came home in time for Valentine’s Day. Jason surprised me with a pearl necklace!
Jason and I went to see the Minnesota Wild kick the Vancouver Canucks’ butts.
It was my first live hockey game.
Some of the players were really into fighting! So that’s fun.
We had sushi for dinner.
Add in a few days of work, and this is how it has come to be February 18th already.

Speaking of sporting events, I never shared these photos!
A few weeks ago, my department at work (Marketing) had a team outing to Elsie’s in Northeast Minneapolis.
Elsie’s donated a couple pins, which we decorated to award as trophies at the end of the outing.
I won the lowest score trophy by three points. Of course, the only strike I managed to bowl during three games happened in the game for which I won this trophy. Kerri, Brenda, David and I were trying different way to bowl—I got my strike when I was backwards, I put the put the ball on the floor between my feet and simply pushed it down the alley.
I’m glad everyone witnessed my awesome strike.
This is also a great opportunity to share a favorite photo from a previous Elsie’s visit:
I ♥ Northeast.

Last night, I got some tickets from my supervisor to go see the Twins play the Pirates at the Metrodome here in lovely Minneapolis. I brought my bro-in-law, Bryan, and friends Erin and Jason.
Bryan approved of our awesome, free tickets.
Jason and Erin were more than happy to join me at the game.
Then I was presented with this ballot, which I didn’t understand. I “voted” for the dudes with the best names, but then I left it in the drink holder at the Metrodome because I didn’t want to waste a stamp on it.
I think Twins games will be more fun for me when they are held at Target Field (i.e. outdoors).
I could feel the weight of every female fan’s crush on Joe Mauer, so I succumbed to peer pressure.
During the 7th or 8th inning, I started getting a little bored.
Hello, we’re tourists! Except we live here!
I liked the way this guy wore his socks. Don’t judge me.
This evening made me want to plan a Saints game with friends later this summer. You in?
