Maybe I’m Slow

I am feeling really frustrated with technology. I can’t tell if my work computer is slow, my internet connection is slow, or if I’m just impatient. Anyway. So I went to Vermillion last weekend.

The purpose of the trip was three-fold:

  1. Return my parents’ car. Check!
  2. Watch midgets wrestle each other. Check!
  3. Be slightly hungover in church to witness my cousin’s confirmation. Check!

I stopped for gas, as usual, in Worthington, MN. It was just about time for the sunset and I was driving right into it. My eyes were really hurting, so I also had to buy cheap, gold sunglasses. You are jealous, I’m sure.

That evening I was reclusive with Mom and Karyn. We played Cribbage, watched shows about hauntings, read People magazines, etc. etc. etc. The usual.

Saturday morning, Ryan and Jane picked Karyn and me up. They brought us to lunch at a vietnamese restaurant, Da Kao, in Sioux City, IA to celebrate the Chinese New Year. It was very tasty and probably the only good thing about Sioux City.

Da Kao had preserved scorpions and moths for sale, which inspired me to save money this year to update the scorpion on my back. No new piercings, just fixing the ol’ tattoo.

Afterwards, Jane wanted to buy a few things at the Asian grocery store, Great Wall. When we first walked in, the place smelled like dirty cat litter to me. As I made my way around the dead fish, crabs, and poultry with feet I got used to the smell. Sort of.

They had Mexican groceries, too — which explains the piñatas.

Ok, then we sat around Mom and Dad’s house. Everyone else played Mahjong while I had my trumpet moments and took pictures of the cat, Tinker.

Around 7pm, Mom and I went to Kelsey and Royce’s house to wish Cait a happy 50th birthday.

Around 8pm, we joined everyone at the Eagle’s to wait for wrestling to begin. And I have a lot of dark/blurry/not as good as I expected photos.

I was taking photos and the “Jungle Man” came over to me and pointed, very menacingly. I nervously smiled and waved back. This photo was right before that happened:

Scary. But there are many, many, many more photos, with which you can start here. There are some videos you can watch here.

But I will share the photo of my autographed chest:

After that, I made Josh and Barry go to the Pub with me. This is how much fun they were:

That’s pretty much the extent of my Vermillion weekend. My cousin Jonathan was confirmed on Sunday and we had a lunch reception at Aunt Kim and Uncle Tom’s house after that. I didn’t bring my camera inside, however. I should have, though, because my cousins brought out the awesome. We played Guitar Hero AND Dance Dance Revolution. Cousin Jen’s boyfriend, Joe, also totally rocked the double dance pad mode! I want two dance pads.

Last night was the Plastic Chord show at the Fine Line. I had never been to the Fine Line before, but it was very large and lovely. Okay lighting. Hopefully Plastic Chord will be invited back and I can take better photos next time.

They have a show at the 7th Street Entry on Thursday the 9th, too. Go! Go! Go!

First I pranked my mom

Here’s a hot preview of part of my Vermillion weekend for you:

Bad Boy Brian wanted me all night. He even offered me beads, but knowing what I would have to do to get beads… I declined.

Wow

I just got signed by both midgets. Pictures forthcoming.

Crazy squirrel lady

I failed at posting photos! I sure got a lot of work done today, though. That is a good thing. I want to start 2006 completely bored at work, so all the work must get done this week.

P.S. Not all of South Dakota’s squirrels are roly-poly — just the ones around my parents’ house. Those little red bundles of cute found my dad’s stash of corn (which is intended for them, anyway). I am in love with cute, furry animals today!

Ah, time to go home.

Cat Sitting and Beyond

I went to visit Janet this morning. She’s leaving for the airport (to fly to New Zealand for her annual month-long trip) in approximately an hour. Harley, of course, ran away. I think there was too much hustle and bustle around the house and all he could do was hide from me! Dot was out and about, though. She followed us around the house and started rolling around, just waiting and begging for attention. What a cute little cat. She’s all roly-poly like the South Dakota squirrels! I will enjoy having some kitties lay all over me tonight as I try to sleep and probably fail.

So, tonight I begin the cat-/house-sitting gig. Janet returns to Minneapolis the night of January 26th, which means I’ll be returning my parents’ car (which they loaned to me for the purpose of getting between home and the cat-house with ease) the weekend of the 28th and probably witness midgets wrestling for the second time. It’s becoming an annual event in my life, I guess.

Oh, I have work to do. Hopefully this afternoon I’ll get to loading the photos from last night. But I’m not promising.
