No Sleep ’til Sunday

On Friday night, I ventured out to coworker Nina’s house for a post-holiday staff party. She lives in Deephaven, Minnesota, which is very much a community that belongs around a lake up north. Her house was beautiful and warm and the party was enjoyable. I ended up talking about my future with Kevin and he told me that it must be harder for me since I have at least 60 years left in which I need to figure out what to do with myself. So that was nice.

After over-staying my welcome with a few other party-goers, I met Peter at Grumpy’s in (near?) downtown Minneapolis. I had never been there before but it definitely surpassed my expectations. It was a very fun evening — good company and good people-watching!

Yesterday I was supposed to try belly dancing with Karyn at the Center for Performing Arts. I got to her apartment around 11am for class at 11:30am, but she wasn’t in the mood and I was quite tired. She took me to breakfast at the Egg & I instead. After messing around for a while longer at her apartment, I went home and went back to bed until about 4pm. I woke up and Kristi was eager to get to the Mall of America for stressful shopping. I was just along for company and directions, but I bought a few sale items, as well. I got these great “naked shirts” (this is my name for them) from Express, which I bought because they were “hysterical” (not the right reason for buying things) but it was even better when I only paid about $3 for items originally priced at $30. I’m not usually a girl who can peruse or feel comfortable buying from sale racks, but it was a score last night, folks. Now I just need to figure out what to wear under them so that I can wear them outside of my bedroom. Ah, fashion.

We came home around 7:30ish with some movies (Kristi rented “Must Love Dogs” and I rented “Broken Flowers”) and wine and we chilled for the rest of the evening. I think I’m now officially caught up on sleep and I need to go to Target.

I’ve often driven by Grumpy’s and wondered about the atmosphere. In fact, I was thinking that as I drove by last night on my way “downtown” to hang out with some friends.

Amy, you said Grumpy’s exceeded your expectations. In what ways? Is it a good place to meet/hang with friends? Does it also offer opportunities to meet new people?

Wow, I just rambled on for too long.

I’m not a huge fan of drinking in/near downtown. I had expected Grumpy’s to be the type of bar where sporty, college types would like to go (though I’m not sure why) – I am not that type. Grumpy’s is dimly lit but artsy and full of chill people (even saw very authentic 70s punk). I didn’t meet anyone, but there are pool tables and dart boards. Peter said there is karaoke on Tuesday, Thursdays and Sundays. They must have live music sometimes, too. There is a whole little room with tables that would serve that purpose well. Also, I think if a game of Scrabble was necessary, it would be very welcome. And lots of free parking behind the bar! That’s always a good thing.

Hmm, I may have to check it out on a night when I am looking for a calmer, laid back night.

Thanks for the heads up!

For some reason, I have a feeling it may be work to convince my friends to venture over to Grumpy’s. Although, it’s worth a shot! 🙂

Amy

Think of the free parking! And the punks! What’s not to love? 🙂

You had me convinced sometime ago. Well with your “comment description” of Grumpy’s. It’s just the sales pitch may not work on my friends. I’m willing to give the pitch! We’ll see what happens! 🙂
